At the beginning of each academic year, St. Norbert College recognizes an outstanding employee with the Exceptional Service Award during the President's Faculty and Staff Luncheon. This year, the honor was presented to Assistant Director of Campus Safety Jim Vickman in recognition of his outstanding contributions, leadership and lasting positive impact on the college community.

A veteran member of the Campus Safety team, Vickman generously shares his knowledge and experience, serving as both a mentor and trusted resource for colleagues. Known for his professionalism, calm judgment, and compassion, he is someone others rely on during challenges large and small.

His leadership is rooted not in authority, but in the trust and respect he has earned from those around him. Vickman has demonstrated a remarkable willingness to embrace change and pursue new ideas. His “Where’s Jim?” social media posts generate thousands of interactions and create positive connections among Campus Safety, students, faculty, staff, alumni and the broader community.

Vickman’s impact extends well beyond community engagement. He has led numerous initiatives that have enhanced campus safety, including the water and ice rescue equipment program, the implementation of blood stopper kits and the campus door numbering project. Despite these significant contributions, he has never sought recognition. Humble and hardworking, he consistently steps up wherever needed.

His dedication to St. Norbert College is evident in everything he does. Through his leadership, service and unwavering commitment to others, Vickman exemplifies the spirit of the Exceptional Service Award.
