Homecoming Week loaded with activities
SNC Homecoming cannonball contest
The cannonball contest makes a splash during Homecoming Week.

St. Norbert is gearing up for Homecoming Week, which kicks off Monday, Oct. 13, with a Cash Cab. Students can hop in the cab — which is actually a golf cart that will be rumbling around campus — for a short ride. During the ride, they’ll be given pop culture questions to answer. For every correct answer, they’ll earn a raffle ticket.

Here are a few of the other activities planned for this festive week.

Minute-to-Win-It Challenges. Around dinnertime on Oct. 14, students can partake in rapid challenges, such as cup-stacking, outside Ruth’s Marketplace. Those who complete their game the fastest will be awarded high-dollar gift cards and possibly even Packers tickets.

Token Challenge. This all-week competition involves studying daily clues given on Instagram that hint to the locations of four tokens hidden around campus. The first person to find each token wins a prize. This year’s prizes include a Keurig coffeemaker, TV, JBL speaker and ping-pong table.

Rock the Docks. SNC’s student band will be jamming in the Campus Center on the night of Oct. 15, while students take part in a spirit-themed craft night. During the event, they can deck out megaphones, rally towels and other spirit items to bring to Saturday’s Homecoming football game.

Cannonball Contest. Perhaps the most popular Homecoming Week event is the school’s cannonball contest, coming Oct. 16. Between one and two dozen students and employees compete against one another to perform the most impressive cannonball in the college’s swimming pool. Competitors must wear a costume (past participants have dressed as Santa Claus and a sumo wrestler, to name two) and are judged on style, costume and, of course, the heftiness of their splash. The top three performers win prizes.

GlowFest. The atrium in the new Donald & Patricia Schneider Family Hall will be set ablaze on the night of Oct. 17 via a wealth of glowing items (think furniture, glow sticks and the like). While Schneider Family Hall shines, students can groove to tunes, nosh on pizza and celebrate.

Homecoming Football Game. Join your students as the Green Knights take on the Eureka College Red Devils at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18. Eureka is a private, liberal arts college in central Illinois.
