The findings highlight the significant role private higher education plays in Wisconsin’s economy, from job creation to workforce development.
Of the $5.4 billion total, $2.71 billion came from direct spending by colleges and their students, employees, and visitors, while $2.72 billion resulted from indirect and induced impacts throughout the broader economy. Other major findings include:39,200 jobs generated and supported

$788 million contributed in federal, state, and local tax revenue

236,000 alumni living and working in Wisconsin
