PRESS RELEASE
St. Norbert College Killeen Chair Lecture Series features Dr. Cathleen Kaveny

The Killeen Chair of Theology and Philosophy Lecture Series will feature "Prophecy,

Civility and the Common Good," presented by Cathleen Kaveny, professor of law and

professor of theology at Notre Dame Law School, on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. in the

Fort Howard Theater, located in the Bemis International Center on the St. Norbert

College campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Kaveny teaches contract law at the University of Notre Dame as well as several seminars

that explore the relationship between law, philosophy and theology. She is also a

columnist for Commonweal magazine, which focuses on politics, religion and ethics. She

earned her A.B from Princeton University and her Ph.D. from Yale. Professor Kaveny

worked as a clerk for the Ninth Circuit Court in Massachusetts and as an associate in the

health-law group of the Boston law firm Ropes and Gray. Her research and lectures have

focused on issues that arise from the intersection of law, religion and morality.

The Killeen Chair of Theology and Philosophy was established in 1984 to bring figures in

the fields of theology and philosophy to the St. Norbert College campus. The Killeen

Chair draws attention to the importance of theology and philosophy in a Catholic liberal

arts education and highlights the commitment of St. Norbert College to provide an

education that is personally, intellectually and spiritually challenging. The Killeen Chair is

an appropriate way of honoring Abbot Killeen's many contributions to St. Norbert

College, the Norbertine Order and the wider community.
