Preparing for move-out day
SNC student moving out

SNC’s academic year will be ending in a few weeks. Here are some things you and your students should be thinking about to best prepare for move-out day and summer break.

  • If your student doesn’t have an internship lined up, encourage them to check with Career Development. The office has a wealth of resources to assist with a search, and can also help students prepare for an internship they’ve already secured.

  • Parents of 2026 grads, April is a good time to make dining reservations for Commencement if you’ll be celebrating in town. If you’re planning an overnight stay, The Kress Inn is typically full by now, and often has a waiting list. But here are some other possibilities nearby.

  • Students should leave their forwarding address and a permanent email address with the Alumni office.

  • If any utility bills are in your name, make a note to have your student cancel the services or do it yourself.

  • SNC operates a Trash to Treasure program the last two or three weeks of the academic year. Its purpose is to encourage the recycling and reuse of unwanted items that students are willing to donate to their peers. Think futons, microwaves, lamps, kitchenware, etc. Remind your student to go through their belongings to see if there is something they can donate before pitching it.

  • Meal Dollars must be used before the end of May each year or they will be lost. Custom Cash funds, in contrast, may be used until students graduate or withdraw from college. If your student is graduating or withdrawing, Custom Cash accounts with balances of $25 or more are refundable.

Snag a Commencement yard sign

Applaud your Class of 2026 graduate with a festive yard sign. Your student can pick up one of these free signs at Cap and Gown, a celebratory event slated for Thursday, April 30, from 3–6 p.m. In addition to picking up their cap, gown and yard sign, seniors can enjoy a nacho bar, beer, Fizz Haven soda, giveaways and more.
