AAC&U Institute on AI Pedagogy and the Curriculum summary and recommendation

Over the most recent academic year, a diverse team of faculty, staff, and students collaborated with the American Association of Colleges and Universities’ Institute on AI, Pedagogy and the Curriculum (IAIPC) to establish a formal and guided framework for investigating the integration of AI within the St. Norbert College community. 

The IAIPC Working Group consisted of Deb Anderson (Biology), Molly Lucareli ’12 (ITS), Krissy Lukens ’92 (ITS), Jamie Lynch (Arts & Sciences), Reid Riggle (Education), and Brianna Partyka ’26.

Summary of work

Tangible deliverables, resulting from the work completed this past year include the following:

  • Drafted a GenAI Position Statement, grounded in the College’s mission, carefully considering the college-wide learning outcomes.

  • Adapted an AI Acceptable Use Scale to support faculty at every stage of AI integration.

  • Supported the Teaching with AI Faculty Workshop (Jan. 2026), launched AI Faculty Digital Fellows, and ran weekly AI-Ready webinars; a student team member built an AI introduction course for students.

  • Conducted a campus-wide AI Survey (Feb. 2026) and audited Fall ’25 / Spring ’26 syllabi to benchmark how AI is actually being used in courses.

Impact

Survey and workshop data show measurably greater faculty AI confidence and knowledge across campus. These efforts have brought AI to the forefront and are well positioned to inform emerging strategic planning.

AI task force recommendation

Efforts to date have built a strong foundation, but significant work remains and the field is moving quickly. The Working Group recommends the College establish a standing AI Task Force to carry forward and scale the work begun by this group. A chartered task force, led by a representative from academic affairs, ITS, or both, would give this work continuity, authority, and accountability.

Suggested focus areas

Informed by the findings of this spring’s campus-wide AI Survey and looking ahead to emerging trends, these are some areas a proposed task force might focus on:

  • Develop an AI policy that establishes necessary guardrails and identifies supported and recommended platforms for SNC.

  • Establish a curriculum that educates students on AI ethics and literacy throughout their experience at SNC.

  • Examine the role of agentic AI in education, particularly in online and asynchronous courses.
