“A vision of health for all — the power of a knowledge economy”Dr. John Raymond
President and CEO of the Medical College of Wisconsin
Wisconsin’s research enterprise serves as a powerful economic engine, driving job creation, regional development and innovations with global health impact. As an essential part of this ecosystem, Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) campuses in Green Bay, Central Wisconsin and Milwaukee continue to transform health for all through groundbreaking research, addressing clinician shortages across the state by training the next generation of healthcare leaders and expanding access to care across rural and urban communities. The future of Wisconsin‘s health depends on stable research funding and strategic public-private partnerships to ensure continued excellence and innovation for the region — and beyond.
About Dr. Raymond
As MCW’s president and CEO, Dr. Raymond leads Wisconsin’s only private medical school, overseeing an operating budget of approximately $1.7 billion. Under his leadership, MCW has addressed the state’s pending physician shortage by establishing regional medical school campuses in both Green Bay and Wausau and training future pharmacists through the MCW School of Pharmacy. He spearheaded MCW’s collaboration with the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and Royal Capital Group to build the ThriveOn King building — a cornerstone of the ThriveOn Collaboration, which aims to bring economic and social benefits to the Milwaukee community. He united Milwaukee County and the state of Wisconsin to develop a forensic science building on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center grounds. In addition to his executive role, Dr. Raymond is a medical researcher focused on the basic mechanisms of kidney cell function. He has published more than 140 full-length manuscripts and secured nearly $40 million in grant funding throughout his career. His recent accolades include being named one of the Wisconsin Titan 100, which honors a premier group of CEOs across the state, and receiving the 2020 Executive of the Year award from the Milwaukee Business Journal.
