Popular SearchesPRESS RELEASESt. Norbert College to Host Arctic Explorer for "Geo-Fest" Posted on Oct. 29, 2017The St. Norbert College geography department will host Aaron Doering at "Geo-Fest" on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The presentation will take
place in the Fort Howard Theatre of the Bemis International Center, 299 Third St., De Pere. The event is free and open to the public.
Doering is a professor of learning technologies at the University of Minnesota. He holds the UMN Bonnie Westby Huebner Endowed Chair in education andtechnology and is a fellow for both the UMN Institute on the Environment and the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.
He will share stories, interviews and media from his Arctic expeditions. Since 2004, Doering has traveled annually to different regions of the Arctic, dog sledding andhiking thousands of miles to the most remote communities to capture stories of how people in those regions are adapting to a changing climate and culture. His
work was recently showcased in a Twin Cities PBS documentary, "The Changing Earth: Crossing the Arctic," which is slated for nationwide release this fall.
Approximately 130 classroom teachers will also be in attendance.
"Geo-Fest" is a day of professional development for groups of state educators participating in faculty-led sessions to learn classroom-proven activities for use in theclassrooms of their colleagues.
