PRESS RELEASE
St. Norbert College Black History Month celebration to feature Soul Food Dinner speaker

St. Norbert College will celebrate Black History Month with events that include its annual Soul Food Dinner, featuring keynote speaker Christy Clark-Pujara, which will be followed by a dance organized by the Black History Month student committee. The dinner and dance will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 5 p.m. in the Michels Commons Ballroom on the St. Norbert campus.

Clark-Pujara is professor of Afro-American studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her dissertation, "Slavery, emancipation and black freedom in Rhode Island, 1652--1842," argues that the institution of slavery, the process of emancipation and the experience of black freedom in the North was fundamentally shaped by the business of slavery--those businesses that directly supported slaveholding in the Americas, such as the Atlantic slave trade and the West Indian trade. Clark-Pujara's teaching interests include African-American History 1619 to 1865, specifically the construction of race, the origins and systems of slavery and gendered experiences.

General admission tickets for the dinner are $14 for adults and $12 for St. Norbert College students and children. Advance tickets are available through the St. Norbert College Box Office.

For tickets, order online at https://tickets.snc.edu/, or by phone at (920) 403-3950, or 800-SNC-BOXX, (800) 762-2699, if outside the Green Bay area.
