PRESS RELEASE
Most Reverend John R. Manz to receive St. Norbert Ambassador of Peace award

The Most Reverend John R. Manz, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago, will

receive the St. Norbert Ambassador of Peace award.

The Peace and Justice Center at St. Norbert College has invited Bishop Manz to campus

in September to accept the award. He will give a free public lecture, entitled

"Peacemakers In My Life - A Source of Inspiration," on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in

the Fort Howard Theater of F.K. Bemis International Center, on campus. His lecture will

be preceded by a wine and cheese reception at 6:30 p.m. and award ceremony at 7:15

p.m.

Born and raised in the Chicago area, Bishop Manz was ordained a priest in May 1971. He

served as associate pastor at two parishes before becoming the pastor in 1983 at St.

Agnes of Bohemia, in Chicago, where he served until his ordination as bishop in 1996.

His parishes and his duties in the archdiocese emphasized ministry to Spanish- speaking

Catholics.

Bishop Manz was chairman of the Committee for Church in Latin America of the United

States Catholic Conference of Bishops, is a member of the Migration and Refugee

Services Committee, and has served on the Administrative Committee. He is presently a

member of the Pastoral Care of Migrants, Travelers, and Refugees Committee.

Each year, St. Norbert College honors an individual who has been an influential advocate

for sustainable peace in our world. The St. Norbert Ambassador of Peace demonstrates

the qualities of a peacemaker in a consistent and outstanding manner: respect for

persons, promotion of dialogue, nonviolent conflict resolution, reconciliation and

forgiveness.
