In the final lecture of the 2017-18 Killeen Chair of Theology and Philosophy lecture series, David M. Carr will present "Beyond Original Sin: Genesis on the Emergence

of True Adulthood." The lecture will take place on Thursday, April 5, at 7 p.m. in the Fort Howard Theater of the F. K. Bemis International Center, 299 Third St., De

Pere. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Carr is a professor of Old Testament at Union Theological Seminary. In his lecture, he will consider the transformative possibilities in the story of God's creation of

male and female humans in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 2-3 and its influence on western culture. Carr will offer a new reading of Genesis 2-3 as a subtle account

of what it means to be a fully adult human that is neither all good nor all bad.

The Killeen Chair is named after the late Rev. Sylvester Killeen, O. Praem., the second abbot of St. Norbert Abbey and chancellor of the college. Established in 1984,

the Killeen Chair of Theology and Philosophy aims to bring well-known scholars of theology and philosophy, and their work, to the St. Norbert College campus. The

programs sponsored by the Killeen Chair, including the annual lecture series, are designed to keep the St. Norbert College community and northeast Wisconsin

abreast of current scholarship on the theological and philosophical issues of the present era.
