The Center for Norbertine Studies at St. Norbert College will host César del Valle Barreda for a lecture on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. in Dudley Birder Hall on

the college’s campus, 400 Grant St. Del Valle Barreda will present the lecture, “Santa María la Real: Origin, Splendor, Decline and Revival of a Monastery.” The

event is free and open to the public.

Del Valle Barreda graduated from the University of Valladolid in 2003 with a degree in art history and received a Master in Assessment and Management of

Historic-Artistic Heritage from the University of Salamanca in 2004. He has worked at the Santa María la Real Foundation for Historical Heritage since 2005 and

is currently the coordinator of the ROM Museum: Romanesque and Territory. He has written more than 12 books and chapters on Romanesque art, including

“Todo el Románico de Burgos” and “Todo el Románico de Palencia,” as well as seven chapters on churches in the Enciclopedia del Románico.

The Center for Norbertine Studies is a collaborative partnership of St. Norbert College and the Norbertine order. The purpose of the center is to study, reflect

upon and disseminate knowledge and understanding of how the Norbertine motto docere verbo et exemplo, "to teach by word and example," is embodied

and carried into the future in the context of the Catholic liberal arts tradition of the college.
