From the perspective of Christian theology, death is not the ultimate end. But dying is also the final transition that a human body can make. How are we to understand the process of dying and the fact of death? How do we best care for those who are dying, for dead bodies, and for those who loved the one who is gone? And how do notions of the afterlife assuage, intensify, or complicate the grieving process? This course investigates the reality of death from a variety of perspectives: medical, social, historical, and theological.
