Davis argues that a prison industrial complex has emerged to surveil, police, brutalize, and imprison people deemed “criminals.” In this course, we will interrogate mass incarceration in the United States from a sociological perspective, paying special attention to complex and intersecting inequalities. Prerequisite: SOCI 100 or 122. Spring, odd-numbered years.
