From rape jokes to Amy Schumer, how do we talk about sexual violence? Joe Samalin of Breakthrough Global Human Rights Organization leads discussion with comedy clips exploring where/if/how and to what effect comedy works when talking about violence.
Joe Samalin is Senior Program Manager at Breakthrough, a Global Human Rights Organization working to make violence against women and girls unacceptable. Samalin has worked with the U.S. National Committee for UN Women as well as national organization Men Can Stop Rape, and is featured in digital publications “The Good Men Project” and “Masculinity U.”

25th Annual Fox Valley Take Back the Night! Since 1990, community members have come out to demand an end to sexual & domestic violence.
Event begins with resource and activity fair, with important community resource information. Annual art exhibit, “Never Silent”, displays works by victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Never Silent on display in Steinhilber Gallery, Reeve Memorial Union 3rd Floor October 7-10.
This 25th Anniversary Take Back the Night also features local & national speakers. Attendees will hear from a local survivor, as well as Joe Samalin of Breakthrough Global Human Rights Org. Joe will speak about Breakthrough’s international work to “prevent violence against women by transforming the norms and cultures that enable it”. Traditional post-rally march past Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc., includes a moment of silence before continuing on to Reeve Memorial Union to view “Never Silent” Exhibit. Transportation available from Alumni Center to Reeve Union.
