Gloria Steinem is a writer, lecturer, editor and activist. A frequent media spokeswoman on issues of equality, Steinem co-founded Ms. Magazine, wrote four books, and was editor of Houghton Mifflin's The Reader's Companion to U.S. Women's History. As founding president of the  Ms. Foundation for Women, Steinem instituted “Take Our Daughters to Work Day,” which is now practiced internationally. Steinem was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 1993 and in 2005, Steinem worked with Jane Fonda and Robin Morgan to create the Women's Media Center. In 2013 Gloria Steinem was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom—the highest civilian honor the U.S. can bestow. President Barack Obama lauds Steinem for creating “lasting political and social change in America and abroad” and for “inspiring us all to take up the cause of reaching for a more just tomorrow.”
