Highlights from video Werner Ladder - "Climbing Pro Ladder Safety Training"
The first step in ladder safety is to choose the right ladder for the job. Assess the job site and the job at hand. Then ask yourself, "What am I trying to accomplish?", "How high will I Climb?", "How much weight will the ladder have to support?". To answer those four questions, you need to know four factors to help determine the correct ladder for the job; style, size, duty rating, and material.
There are five ANSI recognized duty ratings.
The weight support range is from 200 to 375 pounds.
Always inspect the ladder for damaged parts before each use.
Example of damage to bottom rung and side rails.
Example of an extension ladder's damaged foot pad.
Examples of Improper Use
Be extra careful when moving ladders, make sure you don't drop a ladder when loading or unloading it from a vehicle and never drag it across the ground.
Reposition the ladder instead of working in a risky position. Most falls occur because of improper setup and not keeping your body centered between the side rails.
