Health and human performance

16 million people are employed in health care ...

There’s definitely room for one more

Health care is one of the largest – and fastest-growing – industries in the world.  If you’re thinking “doctors,” you’re only scratching the surface. There are endless opportunities to contribute to the cause of keeping people in good health – or returning them to it. With a major in health and human performance at SNC, you can punch your ticket to a dizzying array of careers that are rewarding in every sense.

We offer four concentrations within the major, as well as two minors. Some will prepare you to be a direct caregiver, and some to work in administration, policymaking or one of the many other areas where healthcare and other professions intersect.

Academic paths within health and human performance

With a major in health and human performance, you can choose from four different concentrations:
  • Pre-Nursing concentration – Includes the coursework you need for transfer to Bellin College (with whom we have an existing agreement) or other traditional BSN programs after completing four semesters at SNC.
  • Public Health concentration – Prepares you for careers with community-based agencies, medical care services, government agencies and more. (It also dovetails with our 3+1 agreement with the Medical College of Wisconsin for its Master of Public Health degree.)
  • Sports Medicine concentration – Readies you for graduate programs in areas like athletic training, occupational and physical therapy, and chiropractic medicine.
  • Medical Humanities concentration – Provides you with a balance of natural sciences courses and studies in areas like philosophy and ethics, to help prepare you for careers is areas like government policy and nonprofit health management.

Pair your major with a minor in pre-nursing and you’ll take the courses you need to be admitted to accelerated Bachelor of Nursing (ABSN) programs. A minor in pre-health includes the courses you need for admission to a variety of health programs.

Elevate your health and human performance degree

The health and human performance program combines professional preparation for health-related fields with valuable liberal arts training. With this well-rounded education, students can pursue health-focused careers or graduate programs. Our four concentrations and two minors are rooted in critical thinking, effective communication and a profound understanding of the human condition.

  • SNC hosts lots of informational talks, panels and speakers that opened my eyes and gave me more information about what I’d be experiencing in different medical professions and schools. Highlighting guests in a variety of professions is especially beneficial for students who are still deciding, or don’t know much about the different areas of health care.
