Meet the New SNC Puppy!
This October, a new puppy joined the Green Knight ranks.Meet George
The Bruesses had almost 400 name submissions sent in from members of the SNC community during our puppy naming contest. After some family discussion, Carol and Brian narrowed down the pool to two names, which were then voted on. The name ‘George’ was the winner! Here is some of the reasoning behind why the Bruesses chose the name as a finalist:
It is derivative of a Greek name meaning “farmer, earth worker.” Many of Carol and Brian’s extended families are farmers, both of them growing up spending much time at their grandparents’ farms and currently enjoy visiting and spending holidays with cousins and nieces/nephews who continue to run the farms. Also, as a student points out in her submission: “The current Bruess dog is named Fred, and in the Harry Potter series Fred’s brother is named George. George is also the younger of the two twins, so it is fitting that the younger puppy be George!” Also, fun fact: The Bruess kids – currently age 20 and 24 – are still obsessed with the Harry Potter books and regularly reread them.
What About Fred?
Fred is still hanging around! Fred is a 13 1/2-year-old Yorkshire terrior who has been with the Bruesses since he was 8 weeks old. He sports one tooth and a tongue that hangs out 24/7. Fred still isn’t quite sure about his new puppy brother, but he made it clear that, as long as he gets to sleep in the humans’ bed and the new puppy does not, all will be well.
