Humans of St. Norbert:
“[My husband and I] used to tent camp when our kids were younger. Then a few years ago we switched from tent camping to camper camping. Ever since I was a kid camping and boating is just something we’ve always done and continue to do with our kids. As a parent, you try to introduce your kids to different experiences and make them realize that the world is bigger than just this little corner in northeast Wisconsin. Every year, we try to take our kids somewhere new whether it’s in state or out of state. It’s amazing to see your kids experience new things and see the joy and wonder in their faces when you go to these amazing places around the world.
“Whenever we go traveling, like the Badlands for example, I mean the color palette there is just so amazing! I try to capture that in pictures but it’s just so hard so I try to store that memory and recall that when I’m looking for colors to use. There’s just so much beauty in nature that the inspiration is endless. If you are just walking along and not taking it in intentionally, you miss stuff.
“When we were camping last weekend, I stopped and took a million pictures. My husband is way ahead of me and I’m just like, ‘I see a mushroom and that red is really cool!’ So I snap pictures of stuff just so I can remember it and recall it later when I’m working on something. When I see a texture or a pattern that is really cool I just capture that so I have that reference material to look back on.” – Laura Treichel, senior graphic designer
