Humans of St. Norbert:
“Quo Vadis is a bi-weekly event that I started with the help of the Old St. Joe’s Parish. The goal of it is just to provide another opportunity for myself and my peers to grow deeper in our faith and in our prayer lives. So each night consists of a short speaker to speak about various topics within the Catholic faith just to give us some more outside perspective. From there we go into a time of a little bit of silent prayer and then some praise and worship music, which I lead on my guitar. I sing and we put words up so that everyone can join in. Then we do some intercessory prayer, which was new to most of the participants, but something I have grown to love. So we get into groups of about four and share prayer intentions and then pray over each other in a very authentic, organic way. It’s been a really beautiful way to bring the community together and something that we’ve been able to do in-person in the church with distancing and masks. Following all of the college guidelines, but still having that in-person community which I think has been lost a lot during this COVID time. It is totally open to anyone who wants to come. I definitely encourage non-Catholic students to drop in. It is oriented towards the Catholic faith and we use different things that might be more well known to Catholics, but it is certainly open to whoever would like to come experience it.
“[My favorite part is] seeing students' reactions and their participation in it, especially with the intercessory prayer part. I was a little bit unsure of how it would go over just because it is a very vulnerable thing and for anyone who has never done that, has never prayed in a small group together before it can be a little bit intimidating or a little bit scary. But that first night of everyone totally giving in to it and praying together was super beautiful.” – Katie Coyle ’22
