Humans of St. Norbert:
Dia: “This month is Black History Month. To me, the purpose of this month is to highlight and celebrate Black excellence. Black inventors, Black philosophers, whether that's in America, Africa, the Caribbean or anywhere. We’re taking this month to celebrate their contributions.”
Daijah: “To me, Black History Month is about educating our peers. This month allows us to go deeper into our history. It’s very informational for not just us, but for other people too. Doing events on campus during this time and throughout the year make us [the Black Student Union] more noticeable. Just letting other students know that we have a Black Student Union group on campus and it’s Black History Month.”
Michael: “Another thing we’ve been participating in is African Heritage Incorporated in Appleton. It’s a conference that allows us to network and be around other African American students. We go there every year on Valentine's Day. Lawrence was there, Oshkosh and Fox Valley Tech were all there as well.”
Daijah: “It was a chance for us to interact with African American students that also go to primarily white institutions. We talk about things going on, how to be better leaders and how to make different impacts on our campuses, stuff like that.”
