Humans of St. Norbert:
“I’ve always been a fan of theatre and in the past, I’ve worked in choral productions where it was just singing – and maybe a play in middle school – but I had never worked in live theater.
“After I started working here, as I got plugged into people and places. Several people mentioned to me: ‘Oh, you have an interest in theater? You’d be a good fit helping out some of the productions.’ At first, it was working sound during some of the musicals. Eventually, I just kind of fell in with one of the summer productions as a dresser. Then, I just kind of fell in with the people doing community theater.
“I just directed my first play, Little Women. It was phenomenal. It was fabulous. We had a great cast. I had a great crew. We had a great time. For community theater, that’s kind of the goal. People aren’t professionals and they’re learning all the time – or at least you hope they’re learning. They’re out there having fun too, because they’re unpaid and maybe unskilled. You don’t want it to be a practice in frustration. You want it to be a creative, welcoming, positive experience.”
