Humans of St. Norbert:

“I tend to think of the classroom as a training ground for life. In life, we all hold different views. The lesson is how we live with that diversity in ways where we feel comfortable challenging each other, but also recognizing that divisions that we have are not based, I think, on a desire to destroy society, but on a desire to preserve an ideal version of it. I think many times, especially in our left and right divide in the United States, we look at division and then we demonize people who don’t have the same views as we do. We assume that they are only out to get us, or that they only want to undermine society. This can happen on the left or the right. I think this is just unhelpful. It’s inaccurate. I think what divides liberals and conservatives is their view on how to preserve things that are beautiful to them. If we approach conflict from that angle, asking: ‘What goodness are you trying to defend?,’ Then we can recharacterize what's going on.”
