St. Norbert College Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program to Offer New Summer Courses
The St. Norbert College Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program will offer two new classes this summer. Joel Mann, associate professor of philosophy, will teach "Tragedy and Philosophy" on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 20-June 19, 6-9 p.m. Ben Chan, assistant professor of philosophy, will teach "Bioethics: birth, health, death, and choice" on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 1-31, 6-9 p.m. Both classes will take place on the St. Norbert College campus.
In "Tragedy and Philosophy," students will study tragedy as a dramatic and literary art form and the different Western philosophical theories of tragedy inspired by that art form. One half of the course will concentrate on Greek tragedy and its commentators, and the second half will examine both Renaissance and modern examples of the tragic tradition.
In "Bioethics: birth, health, death, and choice," students will look at the fundamental sources of disagreement in medical ethics, public health ethics and moral controversy, and examine these topics from the interdisciplinary perspective of philosophy, medicine and law.
