St. Norbert College Honors Victor Ochen With Ambassador of Peace Award
St. Norbert College will recognize Victor Ochen, who has been influential to sustainable peace in our world. Ochen founded the African Youth Initiative Network, to aid in the healing of trauma and to promote youth leadership. Both he and the network have been nominated for the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize by the American Friends of Service Committee (AFSC).
Ochen will be presenting "The New Faces of Peace- Youth and Children as Agents for Transformation in Conflict and Post-Conflict Settings" on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. in Dudley Birder Hall on the college campus. This event is free and open to the public.
The St. Norbert Ambassador of Peace exemplifies the qualities of a peacemaker in a consistent and phenomenal manner: respect for persons, promotion of dialogue, nonviolent conflict resolution, reconciliation and forgiveness.
On Sept. 3 Ochen was named Global Goals Ambassador for Peace and Justice at the United Nations headquarters in New York. As ambassador, he will lead a march of thousands of people in Northern Uganda. Ochen, 33, has been a commited advocate of nonviolence most of his life.
