New chapter of Phi Alpha Theta at St. Norbert College
DE PERE: The St. Norbert College History department, assisted by Craig Lockard of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, installed a new chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, a national history honor society at St. Norbert College on March 15.
Phi Alpha Theta was established at the University of Arkansas in 1921 by a history professor who wanted to combine social activities with intellectual pursuits in the field of history. Today, there are over 820 active chapters, 275,000 members nationwide and on average, over 9,000 new members join every year. The society also holds over 30 conferences every spring semester.
The new chapter at St. Norbert College will participate actively by sending students and faculty to regional and national conferences, hosting Phi Alpha Theta events for visiting members and by competing for scholarships for graduate study and undergraduate paper prizes. The St. Norbert College chapter also aims to publish original students
