Award winning author to speak at St. Norbert College
DE PERE: Anita Heiss, one of Australia's most prolific writers, will lecture on "Indigenous Australia: A Contemporary Snapshot," Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Bemis International Center's Fort Howard Theater at St. Norbert College. The event is free and open to the public.
Heiss will give an introduction to Indigenous Australia in the 21st century, from the current population statistics right through to the evolution of contemporary indigenous arts. She will talk about the oldest surviving culture in the world, and how the history of colonization in Australia has impacted its own people.
Heiss is the award winning author of "Who Am I? The Diary of Mary Talence." She is a member of the Wiradjuri nation of central New South Wales, Deputy Director of Warawara Department of Indigenous Studies, and associate professor and Writer in Residence at Macquarie University in Australia.
