Being female athletes, we believe that support for women and women’s sports is imperative. This year, our team champions two key milestones for women: Title IX celebrates 50 years of equal participation of women in sports, and our college also celebrates 70 years of women at St. Norbert College. We are proud of the contributions women have made in the past to get our program to be what it is today, but we want to continue to strive to reach new milestones for our program and women in sports overall.
As we seek areas for our program to progress, we set our sights across the ocean. This upcoming summer of 2024, our team will be embarking on a trip to Portugal, which is the first-ever trip abroad for St. Norbert College women’s athletics. We are thrilled for this unique opportunity to develop our athletic skills in a country that is rich in soccer history, all while we spend time building our relationships with other women in sports both on our team and on the Portuguese teams we encounter. Although this is an incredible opportunity for the advancement of our current team, we understand that this trip is bigger than us. We acknowledge the women who paved the way before us, and we hope that this trip can catalyze future women’s athletic teams at St. Norbert College to follow our lead and broaden their horizons.
