T This course explores both the music within the Bible and how the text of the Bible has inspired music for over two millennia. While looking at the musical traditions of Judaism and Christianity through the centuries, the course will focus on the Bible’s musical legacy in the United States in both religious and secular contexts, e.g., hymns, spirituals, jazz, blues, hip-hop, folk, pop.
