SUPERIOR - Ryan Woodward's goal 3:51 into overtime was the difference as Oswego State University posted a 4-3 overtime win over St. Norbert College in a NCAA Division III Frozen Four semifinal at Wessman Arena. The Green Knights finished their season 25-4-2 overall after making their fourth Frozen Four appearance in five years.
Woodward scored on a scramble in front of the net, beating St. Norbert goaltender Kyle Jones. Woodward's goal finished off a solid scoring chance for the Lakers, now 22-3-3. St. Norbert had a 3-on-1 rush off the overtime face-off but Shane Wheeler's blast hit Lakers' goaltender Ryan Scott in the midsection.
St. Norbert held a 3-2 lead after two periods before the Lakers scored the equalizer 3:44 into the third period. Tyler Lyon's slapshot from the left point beat Jones high to bring the Lakers, who had just three shots in the third period, back to even.
The Green Knights drew first blood when Marc Belanger's shot from the point squirmed through Scott's five-hole for a 1-0 lead. Oswego answered at 13:09 of the first on a Rich Zalewski goal, which followed about three minutes of strong pressure by the Lakers.
Oswego went up 2-1 at 6:30 of the second when Lyon scored a power-play goal. The Green Knights promptly answered on a Kurtis Peterson marker at 9:37 of the second to cap off a 2-on-1 rush. Ryan Petersen gave St. Norbert a 3-2 lead at 17:25 of the second period on a backhand following sustained pressure by the Green Knights.
St. Norbert was 0-for-2 on the power play, while Oswego was 1-for-4. Jones made 25 saves for the Green Knights, while Scott made 26 saves for the Lakers.
