About military science at St. Norbert College
Military Science is concerned primarily with the exploration and development of leadership and management. The Military Science program of instruction is a core-type curriculum consisting of military skills and professional knowledge subjects. The ultimate purpose of the program is to provide college-trained officers for the Regular Army, U.S. Army Reserve and the Army National Guard. The program supports the College’s goals by emphasizing interpersonal depth and the development of personal qualities necessary for leadership such as duty, integrity, courage, loyalty, respect, selfless service and honor. The course of study is conducted under the auspices of the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). The four-year program is divided into two parts: the Basic Course and the Advanced Course.

The course of study is conducted under auspices of the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). The four-year program is divided into two parts: the basic course and the advanced course. The student who successfully completes the advanced ROTC program and receives a baccalaureate degree is eligible for commissioning as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army (active or reserve).

Why study military science?
All St. Norbert students have the option to take classes in lower-division military science. No military commitment is incurred, and you may withdraw at any time before the end of the second year. The advanced courses in military science require a commitment to continue military service after graduation. Army ROTC offers two, three and four-year scholarships for students enrolled in the program.

Since 1936, the St. Norbert College military science program has commissioned both active duty and reserve component officers for our nation’s defense. Over 960 college students have graduated from our ROTC program. 11 graduates have attained the rank of general during their military careers and many other have attained the rank of colonel. Few schools offering ROTC can make such a claim.

Mission statement
The ROTC program supports College goals by emphasizing interpersonal depth and the development of personal qualities necessary for leadership such as duty, integrity, courage, loyalty, respect, selfless service and honor.
