St. Norbert Rallies to Split With UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER - Adam Enwiya's two-out RBI single in the top of the tenth inning lifted St. Norbert College to a 5-4 win over UW-Whitewater in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader at Prucha Field at Miller Stadium. Whitewater, ranked No. 11 in the latest NCAA Division III Poll, won the opener 5-1.

The win gave St. Norbert (18-13) its first-ever win on the diamond over the Warhawks (23-12) in seven overall meetings dating back to 1963.

St. Norbert almost secured the win in the bottom of the ninth inning, retiring the first two Whitewater hitters while nursing a 4-3 lead. Connor Schneider singled and then stole second. Jordan Kuczynski's single drove in Schneider to tie the game.

Derek Klegin then drew a walk to open the top of the tenth inning. Klegin advanced to second on a groundout. Following a strikeout, Enwiya's single to left field brought in Klegin for the lead.

In the bottom of the tenth, Whitewater had runners on first and second with one out. Following a flyout, the runner on second tagged up and went to third. The trail runner then stole second but Matt Zacharias got Cal Aldridge to strike out swinging to end the game.

St. Norbert took a 4-0 lead in the first inning when the first five runners reached base. Tyler Banovich got the Green Knights on the board with a run-scoring single. Enwiya had an run-scoring double. Banovich then scored on a fielder's choice, beating the throw home. Enwiya then came around to score on an infield error.

Whitewater would add single runs in the second, sixth and eighth innings before tying the game in the ninth inning.

Zacharias got the win, allowing four hits and one run with four strikeouts in three innings of relief. Banovich and Enwiya both went 2-for-5.

In the opener, St. Norbert scored in the first inning when Spencer Larson and Tyler Banovich hit consecutive doubles. The Green Knights' offense would be stymied the rest of the way, getting just two hits the rest of the game against a trio of Whitewater pitchers.

Whitewater scored four runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning to pull away.

Jake McMahon allowed nine hits, three earned runs, walked one and struck out five for the Green Knights, who had four hits.
